Two women indicted for allegedly running multimillion-dollar marijuana delivery business

A Milton woman arrested last month for allegedly running an illegal online marijuana delivery service has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Worcester, along with another woman who allegedly assisted in the company’s management.

Deana Martin, 51, had allegedly been earning $80,000 a month from the business, Northern Herb, which had made more than $14 million in revenue from May 2016 to July 2018 and had at least 25 employees.

Martin owned the business and didn’t report any of that income, federal authorities alleged in a criminal complaint. She also didn’t take out or pay employment taxes, they said.

Martin was arrested in April and faces one count of conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana, one count of possessing more than 100 kilograms of marijuana, and three counts of money laundering. She didn’t enter a plea, but her attorney, Brad Bailey, said at the time that she denies the accusations.

Another woman who allegedly managed the business, 32-year-old Tatiana Fridkes, was arrested Tuesday and is charged with one count of conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana. Fridkes also goes by the name Sonya.

According to federal authorities, Northern Herb leaders said the company sold medical marijuana products, though employees did not require customers to show medical marijuana cards. The company used locations in Canton, Foxborough, Hyde Park, and Milton.

Both women could be facing jail time and significant fines for their alleged actions.

Each drug charge has “a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and no greater than 40 years in prison, a minimum of four years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $5 million,” according to US Attorney Andrew Lelling’s office. Each money laundering charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison with up to three years of supervised release, and “a fine of twice the amount of money laundered.”
