EMERYVILLE (BCN)
Police arrested three people whom they suspect of robbing an Emeryville cannabis facility early Tuesday morning, according to police.
At about 3:35 a.m., police dispatchers received an alarm call from the facility at 6613 Hollis St.
The first officer arrived on the scene a minute or two later and spotted three or four vehicles fleeing the area, according to police Capt. Oliver Collins.
Our officers got there so fast, it was like a shock, Collins said. I think they were a little bit surprised by how fast that response was.
Four officers responded to the call and were able to stop two of the cars and arrest three suspects, including 20-year-old Rayondre Adanaadus and 19-year-old Laveltray Powell, both Oakland residents, according to police.
The third suspect is a juvenile whose name was not released.
Officers also discovered that someone had forced their way into the facility and video surveillance indicated that the vehicles they stopped were involved, Collins said.
This is our third break-in weve had at a cannabis facility in the last six months, Collins said. In the other two cases, we were a minute or less behind (the fleeing suspects).
Collins said these types of break-ins appear to be increasing as criminals become more familiar with how cannabis businesses operate and what kind of security theyre using.
I know that other cannabis businesses have been hit by the same setup. I dont know that anyones been caught until recently, Collins said. Were at the sweet spot for criminals to start hitting these places.
Collins said Emeryville investigators are looking to see if Tuesdays burglary might be related to others in the city and in other Bay Area municipalities.
Police did not disclose what was taken from the facility, which shares a building with Rotten City Pizza and was originally intended to house three cannabis businesses — delivery company Golden State Cannabis, distribution, manufacturing and delivery company Green Life California and edible cannabis product manufacturer Sunderstorm, according to a city planning commission report from January 2018.
The two men were taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and the juvenile was taken to Juvenile Hall in San Leandro.
