It took LA firefighters 23 minutes to knock down a “well-involved” fire at a Van Nuys commercial building suspected of housing a marijuana-growing operation where arcing high voltage wires posed a significant danger.
A total of 33 Los Angeles firefighters assumed a defensive posture Thursday morning while battling the blaze at a 50-by-100-foot metal-clad building that appeared to house a cannabis-growing operation, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The electrical wires overhead could have energized the entire metal structure, he said.
The burned building was at 7565 Woodman Ave., said Humphrey. It is located just south of the railroad tracks and Saticoy Street.
Firefighters responded to the locaton about 7:19 a.m. and saw fire coming though the roof of the structure.
There were no injuries, and no other structures were damages, the LAFD spokesman added. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
