Marion’s Your CBD Store offering alternative relief options for pets

As CBD continues to be a popular product for people, a Marion store is expanding its clientele to a new market; pets.

Since opening last year, Your CBD Store, located on 1296 Delaware Avenue in the Servex Centre, has offered a variety of CBD gummies, topical ointments and vape cartridges for people ranging from 20-years-old to 50-years-old. And more recently, these people are now stopping in to stock up on CBD-infused treats for their dogs and cats.

Zach Morrow, co-owner and co-operator of Your CBD Store, said this addition has been great for the store with many pet owners electing to try CBD for their dogs or cats rather than going through the traditional treatments that can be pricey. While Roger Stone, co-owner and co-operator of the store, uses CBD treats to help keep his cat more calm, others use the products for dogs that become unsettled during long car rides.

CBD isn't just for people; it can also be used like these CBD treats for dogs and cats.

However, for Morrow and Stone, their entry into CBD didn’t begin with dog treats, rather it was a means to help reduce physical pain.

Stone first discovered cannabidiol, better known as CBD, when he injured his shoulder while doing manual labor. The pain lasted much longer than he expected and it required multiple surgeries as well medication to alleviate pain. After years of going through different pain medications and rehabilitation, he finally tried a CBD lotion on his injury and he hasn’t looked back since.

“I was at my wits end with taking all this stuff and not feeling good,” Stone said. “I don’t hardly use Ibuprofen anymore, maybe once every few weeks. Everything is CBD.”

Now Stone and Morrow are the owners and operators of Your CBD Store. Though the two are not licensed physicians or medical doctors, they attest to the benefits of using CBD in their daily lives. Whether it’s edible CBD gummies to help with falling asleep, or topical creams to help with pain management, both have found ways to integrate it into their lives.

And now they want to share these experiences and knowledge with the community. There’s no question the world of CBD can be daunting to enter; from cannabidiols to the endocannabinoid system running in our bodies, there’s a lot to take in on first glance. That’s where Stone and Morrow come in. Not only do they want to sell the best products they can find, they want to provide as much information and answer as many questions they can.

First, it starts with figuring out how the CBD can work in your life. It begins with pinpointing the issue; is it pain related, or is it more stress related? While both say CBD is not the end-all solution to these issues, it can help alleviate them, which could lead to long-term benefits. For example, many people that come into the store, Stone said, are struggling with falling asleep which can lead to both physical and mental stress. For these people, they offer a variety of options including capsules or water-soluble oils.

“A lot of it is mental,” Stone said. “You have to deal with what’s going on in your life and this is going to help get you to where you need to be.”

Additionally, the two want to know about any other medication a person might be taking. Since CBD is a relatively new product on the markets, they recommend consulting with a doctor or physician before adding CBD to your regimen. While the product is approved by the USDA, the way CBD can impact one person can be completely different for another; especially if someone is also taking other prescription medicine.

There’s also numerous safety checks and extra information available about every product in the store. Each product in the store comes with a QR code across the label where customers are able to look into the history of how the product was made, what all is in the product and even the fertilizers and pesticides used during the growing process. For Morrow, a large part of the success of these products boils down to transparency and these QR codes show they are an open book.

Morrow and Stone also wanted to make another point clear about CBD: though it comes from the hemp plant, this product does not have the same effects as THC, the main pyschoactive compound in marijuana that gets users high. Instead, CBD is extracted from hemp plants that have a THC level of 0.3% or lower which means these trace amounts are not enough to have the effects of marijuana.
