HAMDEN – Two business leaders will take part in the Quinnipiac University discussion, “The Cannabis Industry: Opportunities for Employment and Startups,” from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9.

The webinar, which is free and open to the public, will feature Leah Bailey, chief business development officer for AUSA, a publicly traded, multistate cannabis company, and John Volkmann, vice president of marketplace at Eaze Technologies, which is California’s largest cannabis delivery business. The event is sponsored by Quinnipiac’s People’s United Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Patrice Luoma, director of the center, will moderate the discussion.
“Now that cannabis is legal in Connecticut and surrounding states, students are interested in career or startup opportunities in the industry,” Luoma said. “The legalization will create numerous opportunities in all aspects of the supply chain, from growing to retail and everything in between.”

Bailey is a highly respected industry leader, mentor and adviser with deep experience in marketing, strategy and management. For more than 30 years, she has held executive roles in private and public companies in the CPG, beauty and cannabis industries.
At AUSA, Bailey oversees mergers and acquisitions, marketing and government and regulatory affairs.

Prior to that, she ran Bailey Management Consulting, where she advised organizations in diverse industries including CPG and cannabis. From 2018 to 2020, she was the chief executive officer of Fluresh, a Michigan-based vertically integrated cannabis grower, processor and dispensary company. During her time there, she built the company’s facilities, including cultivation, manufacturing, retail, hired the management team, received 16 state licenses, and achieved significant revenue.

Until 2017, Bailey was the president of global beauty for Helen of Troy, where she led the company’s strategic integration of global businesses and oversaw a transformation of both product strategies and operations, as well as a significant improvement in financial performance. Helen of Troy brands included Hot Tools, Revlon, Bed Head, Infusium, Pert Plus, Brut and Sure.

Volkmann manages multiple functions at Eaze, including strategy and operations, driver operations, payments, and customer experience. Before joining Eaze, he worked at Uber Technologies, where he was an early member of the Uber Eats business.

Volkmann holds a master’s degree in business administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from the University of Richmond.
