WEST PEORIA – Grow by Design is closing its doors after only a year in business.

Located at 2002 W. Heading Ave. in West Peoria – the old Geier Florist building – the business sells products to help people grow cannabis, vegetables and flowers both inside and outdoors. Owner Craig Sieg blames competition from other cannabis-related businesses and the business climate in West Peoria for the closure.

“Cannabis is a cutthroat business,” Sieg said.

The business and the building are currently for sale for $260,000. Sieg plans to find a new location in Peoria County to continue teaching people how to grow cannabis and other plants. The new business is a not-for-profit named Grow by Design University, Sieg said.

The Grow by Design building was home to Central Illinois Fresh, a microgreens growing company, shortly after Geier Florist closed in 2019.
