Pot purchases are padding the coffers of Phoenix and other cities, and as revenue from recreational marijuana is forecast to grow, the city will use most of it to pay down public safety pensions.
Cities across Arizona gained several new revenue streams after voters legalized recreational marijuana in 2020, but those with dispensaries in their city limits and larger police and fire departments benefit the most.
