The Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act to grow studies on pot is headed to President Joe Biden’s desk as the first standalone cannabis reform bill to pass both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, as initially reported by Marijuana Moment. The House passed the measure after it was filed in July and the Senate followed suit on Wednesday by a voice vote. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a Tweet the bill aims to eliminate red tape that’s slowing cannabis research for new treatments. Schumer said the Senate will continue working during the Lame Duck session on other legislation. The SAFE Plus Banking bill to open up the financial sector to the cannabis business remains in the mix.
