ROCK PORT – The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is working to allow dispensaries of marijuana following legalization of recreational users age 21 and older in November.
The state’s Constitution officially changed this month to include Amendment 3 and provisions for possession of up to three ounces of weed.
Applications for dispensary licenses are being taken. The state has until Feb. 6 to approve those applications, but news reports say it could happen in January.
The state’s Division of Cannabis will also be able to approve Missourian who want to grow their own cannabis at home. Those who are approved an at-home cultivation license will be able to have up to six flowering plants.
The division is expected to issue 144 marijuana business permits later next year. These businesses will be able to grow up to 250 plants.
Half of the licensees for medical marijuana have now applied for recreational permits, as well.
As part of the referendum, non-violent marijuana offense will be automatically expunged, but those serving time in prison will have to petition the court to have their sentences vacated.
