Got a medical marijuana card? Do your shopping before Jan. 10, consumer officials say

Adult-use cannabis dispensaries will open for business at 10 a.m. on Jan. 10 in hybrid locations that sell both adult-use and medical cannabis. The state Department of Consumer Protection is advising those with medical marijuana certifications to do their cannabis shopping before that date, to avoid long lines and bad traffic that may build up around the hybrid dispensaries.

“Patients who can make purchases ahead of time, or have their medicine delivered, are advised to do so,” said DCP Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull.

“Although many of the hybrid retailers will provide separate checkout counters or cash registers for Medical Marijuana Program patients, they may still experience increased traffic, as well as crowds in and around the hybrid retailers in the opening days of the market,” Seagull said.

There are about 50,000 licensed medical marijuana patients in the state with qualifying medical conditions, the DCP reports. Those patients have access to cannabis products with higher THC potency and cannabis in pill or tablet form, and can buy up to five ounces a month. Medical customers are not taxed because medication is nontaxable.

Seven retailers will open for adult use on Jan. 10. All of them sell medical cannabis, too. Retailers set to open on Jan. 10, open to both medical patients and the general public, are:

  • Affinity Health & Wellness, 1351 Whalley Ave. in New Haven
  • Bluepoint Wellness of Connecticut, 471 E. Main St. in Branford
  • The Botanist, 887 Norwich-New London Turnpike in Montville
  • Fine Fettle, 2280 Berlin Turnpike in Newington
  • Fine Fettle, 12 Research Drive in Stamford
  • Fine Fettle, 1548 W Main St. in Willimantic
  • Zen Leaf Meriden, 1371 E Main St. in Meriden

Cannabis was approved for adult use in Connecticut in June 2021. For information about adult use cannabis, visit ct.gov/cannabis.
