First marijuana dispensary in Montgomery opens, but is the 4th for Black-owned Ivy Hall company

Montgomery recently opened its first marijuana dispensary.

City officials held a ribbon cutting for Ivy Hall Montgomery, a social equity dispensary, at 1970 Caterpillar Drive.

Officials said the dispensary is a majority veteran and African American-owned business, and is the fourth Ivy Hall dispensary.

“We’re honored to open Montgomery’s first cannabis dispensary,” said Dominque Moses, Ivy Hall district manager. “My team and I look forward to building relationships with our customers and guiding them on their cannabis journey with excellent customer service, and an innovative loyalty and rewards program.”

Ivy Hall identified Montgomery as an underserved market without convenient retail access to safe, legal and regulated cannabis products. The cannabis company invested more than $1 million to open the dispensary and has hired 30 employees at the location, according to officials.

“We appreciate the support we received from local officials to invest in the community, create jobs, revitalize this former bank location, and continue to build out the Ivy Hall footprint in the broader Chicago market,” said Greg Elliott, Ivy Hall chief growth officer. He is also the majority owner of the Montgomery dispensary license.

The approximately 4,500-square-foot dispensary is located in a vacant former bank building on Caterpillar Drive. Company officials designed the location to be what they call a neighborhood boutique. Moses called it “a concierge” experience.

Ivy Hall is one of the state’s fastest-growing social equity businesses, having opened four locations since November.

In December, Governor J.B. Pritzker and state officials took part in the opening of the brand’s Bucktown location in Chicago, and other operating locations are in Crystal Lake and Waukegan.

Ivy Hall officials have said they expect to open 10 locations in Illinois.

The Montgomery facilities hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
