Isle of Wight business owner caught with cannabis in his home

William Creighton, of Spring Gardens, Ventnor, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, June 20.

The 32-year-old admitted possession of cannabis, on March 5.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court Creighton had been arrested on an unrelated matter on the day in question.

She said they searched his home address and seized 8.2g of cannabis, which Creighton said was entirely for personal use.

Michael McGoldrick, defending, said Creighton, who runs his own groundworks business, had not been before the courts for some six years.

He said no further action was taken in regard to the unrelated matter.

Creighton said cannabis helped with his mood and sleep.

He was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £26 surcharge.
