On Saturday morning, visitors to Neptune Beach were greeted with an unexpected find on their shores – a hefty quantity of marijuana.
According to the Neptune Beach Police Department, the marijuana washed ashore near Florida Boulevard, catching the attention of beach-goers who quickly alerted local authorities.
The police believe the substance was likely stored in a bag that burst open at sea, scattering its contents before reaching the shore. Beach-goers were taken aback by the sight of the marijuana; some even picked it up and gave it a sniff for verification.
When beach-goers noticed the marijuana on the shoreline, they promptly contacted the Neptune Beach Police Department. The officers were swift in their response and started working with Public Works to clear the marijuana off the beach.
The police department issued an official statement about the find: “Before anyone starts thinking about coming out and turning this discovery into your own treasure hunt, we would advise against it. After floating in the ocean for some time, the marijuana has quickly begun to degrade and rot.”
As news of the marijuana swiftly circulated, beach-goers began sharing their reactions and opinions on the matter. The scene surprised Suzanna Joseph, who commented, “It’s crazy. I’m surprised there wasn’t a bunch of hippies on the beach.” When asked about his reaction, Brandon Bowman said, “There were a couple of cop cars down here parked on the street, just parked down there, I guess picking up nugs of weed that washed up from the water.”
One woman even went as far as suggesting that the marijuana might be laced with fentanyl, saying, “You can’t tell these days what’s in it, and if they get it now of days, they lace it with fentanyl.”
However, the suggestion of weed being laced with fentanyl, especially weed that was in the ocean for some time, is ludicrous on many levels and underscores the need for more cannabis education.
Beach-goers were amused by the scene, with some joking it looked like something out of a TV show.
Bryan Crews also weighed in on the scene, saying, “I don’t know from personal experience, but watching shows, if you put it all together, it probably would’ve been five or ten pounds,” Crews said.
