‘Canna-Comedy Bash’ touts first-ever Muskegon cannabis consumption show

MUSKEGON, MI – Cannabis enthusiasts and those looking for a blazing good time next weekend are invited to a comedy show with a unique twist: the chance to smoke quality “flower” while laughing all night.

RJN Comedy and Inigrow are partnering for the first time to bring a free comedy show like no other. Adults 21 and over can attend the event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at The Bowl, 623 W. Clay Ave, to see four comedians live.

The outdoor marijuana consumption space is next to IndiGrow, a downtown Muskegon cannabis microbusiness. The Bowl, adjacent to Indigrow’s storefront, serves as an official space for the public to consume cannabis in a safe place.

Ricarlo Williams-Winston, the owner of RJN Comedy and the emcee for the event, said he thought it would be a good idea to partner with an area cannabis business because “marijuana and laughing go hand-in-hand.”

“A lot of people that I talked with about The Bowl didn’t even know the consumption space existed,” he told MLive/Muskegon Chronicle. “I’m glad that we can utilize that space and bring awareness to that area downtown. We have the Social District where you can take your drinks, so it’s good to know that there is a space right down there.”

Along with Williams-Winston, four other comedians will take the stage at 6 p.m., including Russel Carns, Farai Gotora, Jay Harris and Kevin Johnson.

Williams-Winston said he encourages people to bring lawn chairs and a suggested donation of $10 to support the comedians.

He said that he has been doing standup comedy for nine years out of the Muskegon area, and decided to reach out to some of his comedy buddies for the show.

“We’re going to have a great time,” Williams-Winston said. “They’re all hilarious and I think I’m pretty funny, too. The audience is going to get a nice variety of different comedy styles and backgrounds.”

RJN Comedy officially launched just five months ago, he said. Williams-Winston and his brother linked together on the business after he was the manager for the Back Alley Comedy Club inside the Sherman Bowling Center in Muskegon.

Williams-Winston told MLive that he plans to bring comedy back to the bowling alley next month, as well as keep doing shows across different restaurants and venues in West Michigan. He said that the comedy bash will hopefully be an annual event.

“I want it to grow as much as it possibly can,” he said. “Comedy has pretty much been my whole life. I love to make people laugh. So, with this first year, we’re hoping people come out and have a good time and tell other people so we can grow it next year.”

RJN Comedy performs all over the Muskegon area at favorite local places like The Valkyrie and The Dirty Dog Bar & Grille.
