Marijuana issue on November ballot, up next for 3CDC, today’s top stories | Daily Briefing

Ohio voters will decide Nov. 7 whether to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older.

Hello! I’m Haley BeMiller, a reporter for The Enquirer’s statehouse bureau in Columbus.

Let’s talk about marijuana.

Ohio voters will decide Nov. 7 whether to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. We’ve had a medical cannabis program in place since 2016, but business leaders in the industry want to expand the market.

The ballot issue is a proposed law, or initiated statute, instead of a constitutional amendment. And there’s a lot there. The measure sets rules for buying, selling, growing and taxing adult-use cannabis. It lays out what marijuana users can and can’t do, and when local governments can keep dispensaries out of their communities.

In today’s story, we fielded questions from readers and broke down everything we can expect down the road. Stay tuned for more in-depth coverage on this issue in the coming weeks. For now, here’s what you need to know.
