Taxation and Revenue says it is picking up enforcement on cannabis businesses not paying taxes

State officials said that more cannabis businesses are paying their fair share of taxes — an issue since the launch of recreational cannabis — after a state department charged with collecting taxes upped its enforcement of the issue earlier this summer.

The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department on Wednesday said it has brought into compliance 80 cannabis companies on their tax filings, a move that comes as the industry has seen significant growth since recreational cannabis became legal in April 2022.
