U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., recently wrote a letter to attack an “out-of-state, out-of-touch special interest group” that criticized her work to liberalize our nation’s marijuana laws. She targeted them in an effort to ignore the fact that countless Wyomingites are also opposed to the legalization and commercialization of marijuana.
She claimed she “worked tirelessly” to add legislative “language to the Safe and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act.” What she chose not to tell the hardworking people of Wyoming is that the SAFER Banking Act (S. 2860) is a handout to the marijuana and banking industries. It would enable the marijuana industry to accept billions in investments from Wall Street and Big Tobacco, which would, in effect, legalize and commercialize marijuana.
