Would Issue 2 erase marijuana crimes and more, today’s top stories | Daily Briefing

Juan Collado D’az of the Sensible Movement Coalition leads a rally at the Ohio Statehouse on April 20.

Happy November! This is Haley BeMiller with The Enquirer’s statehouse bureau, and I’m back to talk about Ohio Issue 2.

Voters will decide on Tuesday whether to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. We’ve talked a lot about where politicians and marijuana businesses stand on Issue 2. I even went up to Michigan to see if pot shops along the border are worried about losing Ohio customers.

Today, we’re looking at criminal justice reform. Unlike other states, Ohio’s proposal doesn’t address expungements or sentences for marijuana crimes. It instead creates a social equity program that aims to help business owners who have disproportionately been affected by marijuana prohibition.

But not everyone is on board with that part of it. And ultimately, the Legislature can change a lot of this if Issue 2 passes. To dig in more, click or tap here.
