Comedic duo and stars of “Up in Smoke” Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, commonly known as Cheech & Chong, appeared in Whately on Saturday, Nov. 11, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch three dispensaries in the region.
Both men have rebranded three Happy Feelings dispensaries in Whately, Northampton and Greenfield as Cheech & Chong’s Dispensoria, offering their own name-brand products at all three locations, WWLP reported. All three locations opened in October.
“Gas up for your next adventure the Cheech and Chong way,” the comedians’ Instagram post showing the Whately location’s grand opening said. “Massachusetts stop in and say high!”
The post shows the two cutting the ribbon, with Marin testing the scissors before the cutting and Chong taking a drag off an imaginary joint after the ribbon parts fell.
Known for stoner classics like the 1978 film “Up in Smoke,” Cheech and Chong entered the cannabis business with several different dispensaries across the United States, located in California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Michigan, Arkansas and Mississippi.
Both men have been recognized throughout their careers for other projects in arts and entertainment. Chong notably appeared as the recurring character Leo on “That 70s Show.”
Marin has taken on several film and television roles over the years, including several films by Robert Rodriguez such as “Desperado,” “Spy Kids” and “Machete.” In 2022, Marin opened the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture & Industry in Riverside, California, as part of the Riverside Art Museum.
