High Profile opens for business, joins five other cannabis dispensaries in Springfield

High Profile Cannabis is selling its marijuana and other products for the first time in Illinois with the opening of a store in Springfield.

Business has been brisk since the doors opened on Jan. 29, said store manager Cory Scott.

High Profile Springfield cannabis employee Payton Fleming rings up a customer at the shop Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

“It’s the Capitol location,” Scott said. “It’s the place that you want to start your flagship store and then move into other places after the fact.”

An official grand opening for the store at 4211 Conestoga Drive will be on Friday at − you guessed it − 4:20 p.m.

High Profile will offer a myriad of products including pre-rolls, vape pens, concentrates, edibles, tinctures, and CBD.

There are deals for various segments of the community including seniors. “We have a senior discount called wisdom …. because seniors tend to be a little bit smarter than everybody else; and for the first 90 days we’re allowing those discounts to stack on top our first-time customer deal.”

A collection of vendors such as Cresco Lab cannabis and Progressive Treatments Solutions will be at the grand opening also offering product specials.

High Profile joins five other dispensaries in Springfield. Share, opened in September at 3600 S. 6th St. Road and is Springfield’s only locally owned and operated cannabis dispensary. Maribis has two locations on Denver Drive and Lindbergh Drive in Springfield, respectively, while Ascend owns locations on Adams Street downtown and Horizon Drive.

High Profile Springfield is among 23 other dispensaries operated nationwide by C3 Industries, a multi-state cannabis company.

“I would like to have us become the premiere dispensary in Springfield, both for product and customer experience,” Scott said. “I would really just like to watch us succeed.”

For Springfield customers, a new store means more choice.

Retired traffic engineer with the city of Springfield James Corbett, visiting High Profile means testing different strains in the Sativa cannabis, which gives an uplifting head high and doesn’t lower users energy.

“I was just researching the new facility to see if they had clones for my growth,” Corbett said, who grows at home with an Illinois Medical Cannabis Registry Identification Card. The medical marijuana cardholders can cultivate up to five plants that can sprout up to five inches tall. “I started growing to cut my cost for my own personal use.”

Illinois legalized recreational consumption and possession of marijuana sales on Jan. 1, 2020, leading to dispensaries popping up around central Illinois. Adult-use cannabis sales topped $1.6 billion in 2023 according to a report from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, a 15% increase from 2022.

With cannabis being one of the many driving forces of income in the state as a taxable product, 6.25% goes back into the Cannabis Regulation Fund and to state agencies that administer the program. Last year, Illinois made over $417.6 million in sales tax revenue from cannabis sales, according to the Illinois Department of Revenue.
