Yes, legalize it in 2020: A recovering addict’s plea on marijuana

While it’s true that marijuana was partially decriminalized statewide this past summer, even the minimal violations police are still permitted to mete out can show up on background checks and negatively impact chances for a job, a loan or a place to live. As reported in Gothamist, of the 750 arrests and 8,000 violations related to marijuana in 2019 prior to decriminalization, 90% were people of color. Legalizing marijuana not only would amend the still-biased enforcement of marijuana rules today, but also move toward rectifying historic injustices via investment.
