HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — The Hackettstown Council unanimously adopted an ordinance recently that permits certain types of cannabis business operations within the town’s borders.
According to the adopted ordinance, cultivators and manufacturers of cannabis products will be permitted in the town’s light manufacturing district under certain conditions. These facilities may transact with one another, but may not sell directly to consumers.
However, in an email to Patch on Thursday evening, Hackettstown Mayor Jerry DiMaio wrote that the ordinance committee “is in discussion on whether to pursue an ordinance to allow retail in certain areas of town or not.”
“That [the decision whether or not to move forward with such an ordinance] will be coming in the next couple of months,” DiMaio added.
DiMaio said that permitting the cultivators and the cannabis manufacturers in the town’s light manufacturing district, as the council voted on May 27, will benefit Hackettstown.
“This [the ordinance adoption] should provide nearly 150 – 200 jobs to our community along with some additional tax revenue,” DiMaio wrote.
