A Bristol business owner is helping Virginia owners grow their own marijuana plants.
Trevor Leonard, owner of The Answer on 6th Street in downtown, started an online business to help future growers become successful.
“We’ve been helping a lot of folks get their grow on,” he said.
At Leonard’s store, he sells CBD and hemp products. Right now, it is still illegal to possess marijuana in the state of Tennessee. But on the other side of the state line, Trevor has started LeafVA to help Virginia residents grow their own marijuana.
“We have a lot of folks that want access to their own medicine, and then we have a lot of folks who just want to do it, the opportunity is there…and it’s a stand for freedom,” he said.
Gov. Ralph Northam pushed for Virginia to legalize marijuana this year. Northam signed the legislation on April 21st, allowing Virginia residents to grow up to four plants. The bill officially makes simple possession of marijuana – amounts up to one ounce for people 21 and up – legal.
Retail sales are not expected to be permitted until 2024.
Leonard can help Virginia residents with consultations and even equipment to make their plants successful.
“The biggest thing I see is folks needing help with troubleshooting, whether it’s nutrients, environment, or just getting started in the whole process,” said Leonard. “It’s more involved than your typical garden.”
While retail sales might take a few years, cannibas is a business venture that Leonard said won’t go up in smoke any time soon.
“From start to finish and all the steps in between, we can help with that,” said Leonard.
