WAREHAM – Jesse Pitts delivered the traditional christening to celebrate the grand opening of cannabis purveyor Trade Roots at 6 Thatcher Lane Thursday morning by breaking a bottle of champagne against a pillar with a swipe.
It was 9 a.m. – opening time – and a line had already started to form out front.
The business has been open for only a few days following a soft opening so expect those lines to grow.
Trade Roots’ hours will provide plenty of opportunity for people to buy cannabis or cannabis products. They’re open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Partners Pitts and Carl Giannone’s new business will also have plenty of different products for shoppers. Trade Roots retails, cultivates and manufactures at its 16,600-square-foot facility.
They also carry brands manufactured locally, like chocolate bars from COAST Cannabis Co. at 3103 Cranberry Highway in East Wareham, as well as products from around the state – including the cultivated “flower” from High Plains Farm in Plainville.
High Plains founder and CEO Chris Roos was on hand for the opening Thursday, saying he was “happy to support our friends Carl and Jesse.”
Pitts said, “We offer a lot. We have our own in-house products. We have some vaporizers and high-end concentrates, and then we have some flower of our own here but we also carry all of our brand partners’ product here as well. Typically, we have a lot of reciprocal partners that we do extractions for.”
With so much to offer, there’s obviously a need for lots of help.
Trade Roots employs over 40 people at present, and that number will grow when it gets licensed for deliveries, as well, through “Trade Winds.”
Pitts said, “We’re in the process of licensing. That will be coming, hopefully, in the near future. Right now we’re focused on the three licenses that we have.”
Roger C. Williamson, Trade Winds’ chief operations officer, said, “This product is helping provide people wellness. That’s how I see it. We’re selling wellness and customer service.”

He added, “There are products here that are for everyone and it’s just fantastic to see all sorts of different people come through and really embrace cannabis as a part of their lives, to have that wellness.”
