NBA to allow players to promote and invest in cannabis companies: report

The National Basketball Association (NBA) will soon allow players to promote and invest in cannabis companies, according to a report by The Athletic.

Per the report, these measures will be included in a new seven-year collective bargaining agreement struck between the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) over the weekend, the details of which are yet to be made public.

Citing sources briefed on the details of the negotiations, The Athletic said players would also no longer be penalized for using marijuana as it has been removed from the drug testing program.

Players will be able to promote and/or invest in cannabis and betting companies. They will be allowed to sign non-gambling endorsement deals with sports betting companies, the publication reported.

Further, NBA players will be allowed to invest in NBA and Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) teams via an NBPA-selected private equity firm.
