Cannabis edibles recalled for having 20 times allowable THC levels per serving

A voluntary product recall of some marijuana-infused edibles was issued Friday because the THC content is extremely higher than allowable levels and the product packaging doesn’t follow regulations.

The products, labeled as “The Weed Bar,” were created with 200 mg of THC per serving — which is 20 times the allowable amount for recreational or “adult use” marijuana. State regulations limit THC levels to 10 mg per serving for recreational marijuana edibles and 50 mg per serving for medical marijuana edibles. Per package, the limit is 200 mg.

The recalled products have also been deemed non-compliant in packaging as they aren’t labeled “marijuana product,” “THC product” or “cannabis product,” according to Michigan’s Cannabis Regulatory Agency.

The CRA announced the recall, in coordination with Bloomfield Development Group Grow LLC — doing business as Golden Shores Cannabis Company — on July 7. The products were sold on various dates in May and June at Plan B Wellness Center on West Eight Mile Road in Detroit, Detroit Herbal Center on Wyoming Street in Detroit, Dream Dispensary on East Eight Mile Road in Detroit and Mood Cannabis on Sherwood Avenue in Center Line.

David Harns, spokesperson for the Licensing and Regulatory Agency — which oversees the CRA — said the problems were discovered when the CRA was conducting a routine inspection. He also said he’s not aware of any negative effects reported in connection with the products. However, the CRA is advising anyone who has had adverse reactions to report it to their healthcare provider. Consumers are also encouraged to report adverse reactions to CRA-Enforcement@michigan.gov or by calling the CRA at 517-284-8599.

Also, the CRA is encouraging anyone who has the recalled products to return them to the store where they were purchased so they can be disposed of properly.
